Wyjątkowy Jubileusz Profesora Wojciecha Gawlika
On January 12, 2025, in the historic Aula Magna of the Collegium Novum at Jagiellonian University, a remarkable ceremony took place – after 50 years, Professor Wojciech Gawlik renewed his doctoral degree.
The event brought together distinguished guests: Vice-Rector of JU, Prof. Wojciech Macyk, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science, Prof. Zbigniew Postawa, Director of the Institute of Physics, Prof. Jakub Rysz, as well as a large group of colleagues, friends, and family of the Jubilant.
After the Dean’s welcome, the Rector took the floor, offering heartfelt congratulations and sharing personal memories connected with Professor Gawlik. This was followed by a laudation delivered by Prof. Szymon Pustelny, who presented the Jubilant’s profile, his professional journey, and his most significant scientific achievements.
The highlight of the ceremony was the reading of a Latin maxim and the presentation of a ceremonial diploma by the Dean. In his speech, Professor Gawlik recalled three individuals who had a decisive influence on his scientific career: Prof. Danuta Kunisz, Prof. Gisbert zu Putlitz, and Prof. George Series. He also emphasized the immense role his family played throughout his career.
After the official part, the participants raised a toast to the Jubilant’s health and enjoyed a reception. For the Department of Photonics, founded by Professor Gawlik, this was a moment filled with pride and emotion.
