LISA Mission: Overview and Challenges (Webinar. Unusual Time! 14:15)
The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) will be the first space-based gravitational wave observatory with the scientific goal to detect gravitational waves in a sub-Hz frequency band. It will allow studying astronomical systems like supermassive blackhole mergers, galactic compact binaries, extreme mass ratio inspirals, and other currently unmodelled sources of gravitational waves. Three LISA spacecraft separated by 2.5 Gm will form Michelson-like interferometers that will allow direct measurement of the scientific signals. In my presentation I will talk about the complexity of the LISA mission and the challenges of laser interferometry techniques in space.
