Energy resolution of magnetic field sensors

The energy resolution per bandwidth E_R is a figure of merit of performance of magnetic field sensors. In this seminar, I will talk about the history and origins of energy resolution with the aim of understanding how E_R is limited by quantum effects. In addition, I will review the known limits for three well-studied high sensitivity magnetometer types and the systems proposed to surpass the E_R = ħ limit.
