AbstraktSeminarium:

Alkaline-earth-like atoms play an important role in various areas of experimental physics, such us quantum metrology, quantum simulations or precise atomic and molecular control. Their relatively simple electronic structure and accessible intercombination transition make them suitable for laser cooling and trapping in a magneto-optical (MOT) or an optical dipole trap. Those traps became the essential tools for ultracold atomic experimental physics. I will present the results of our recent experiments with Rb and Hg atoms performed in KL FAMO. I will also present the prospects for development a continuous superradiant frequency standard operating on the Sr clock transition.
