Mobile NMR: principles and unusual applications
Mobile NMR concerns NMR measurements with mobile instruments. Mobile relaxometers are used in the oil industry for well logging and in materials science for non-destrutive testing [1,2]. These instruments collect NMR signal from a region in the inhomogeneous strayfield outside the magnet. Magnets of this kind can be made small, so that compact strayfield relaxometers can be carried along to the object of interest. Following an introduction to to strayfield NMR relaxometry, results from recent measutement campaigns with the NMR-MOUSE are reported including the analysis of asphalt road pavements [3], master violins in the Museo del Violino in Cremona, and biofilms in Yellowstone National Park.
