Optical Flywheel System for Long-Distance Distribution of Atomic Clock Signal
Although optical atomic clock offer high phase stability, access to this stable reference frequency is currently limited to local use. Transmitting the signal through an unstabilized optical fiber results in a significant degradation of its stability. A much better approach involves using a connection with active phase stabilization, which employs bidirectional transmission. However, this method does not effectively compensate for rapid phase fluctuations caused by vibrations and acoustic waves. Therefore, it is necessary to implement an optical flywheel to eliminate phase fluctuations that cannot be fully compensated for by the active stabilization loop in the fiber-optic link. During the seminar, I will discuss the fundamental physical principles of an ultra-stable frequency reference and present results that characterize the system's efficiency.
